CLIMB TO GREEN: Stocks ended higher Thursday after recovering from declines earlier in the day. It was the fourth straight day of gains for the S&P 500 index.
DRIVING STOCKS: Strong bond auctions in Europe and a sharp drop in oil prices late in the day drove stocks higher in the last 90 minutes of trading. Crude dropped below $100 per barrel for the first time this year on rumors that Europe will delay an embargo of Iranian oil.
BY THE NUMBERS: The Dow Jones industrial average gained 22 to end at 12,471. The S&P 500 finished up 3 at 1,296. Rising stocks outnumbered falling ones 3-to-2 on the New York Stock Exchange.
